What is your role within Prysmian?
I am the Process Engineering Manager at the Schuylkill Haven, PA plant.  My job responsibility is to manage the Process Engineering team for the entire facility and help my team have the opportunity to operate closely to their core competencies to reduce costs within the plant through projects and initiatives associated with scrap reduction and efficiency improvement while servicing the operators on the shop floor.

Please describe your first year @Prysmian Group, as part of the Make It Program
The Make It Program has been an extremely valuable experience for me in the specific regard that I now have a cross functional network of like-minded professionals in Prysmian facilities all over the world.  With this global footprint I feel uniquely prepared to address any problem that may arise throughout my career with Prysmian Group.  Through the program’s initial three-week induction, I was able to visit the plant’s headquarters in Milan, Italy in addition to European Manufacturing plants as well as the Manufacturing Academy in Mudanya, Turkey.  I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and being part of a paradigm shifting initiative within Prysmian Group.  I have been with the company now for a little over six months and am learning new things every day as a young leader in the Schuylkill Haven, PA plant and I am excited to see what profitable impact my team can make in the next six months into 2018.

3 adjectives to describe your experience @Prysmian Group

  • Empowering
  • Humbling
  • Challenging

What did you like most about the Induction and on-boarding experience?
What I like most about the Induction and on-boarding was the initial one-week period spent in Milan, Italy at the headquarters.  This experience was very beneficial to understand how Prysmian operates at a corporate level and what the corporate footprint and culture of the company are as a whole.  It was also awesome to be a part of such a diverse group of professionals who come together from all over the world and build such a rapport with one another and hopefully help to build a better Prysmian Group for the future.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?
The most challenging part of my current job is having the dual functionality of having to learn a new industry with wire and cable manufacturing while trying to solve the problems of that same industry within a plant setting at the same time.  Coming from the automotive composites and injection molding industry there is a learning curve for myself personally and having over 50% of my process engineering team have less than six months’ experiences gives us a very challenging opportunity in front of us.  I am confident that we will meet this challenge head on and have a profitable impact that will be sustainable in the Schuylkill Haven, PA plant.

What is the most rewarding thing about your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is being able to manage such an ambitious, dedicated, and passionate team of Process Engineers.  Without their dedication and commitment to integrity and accuracy in their daily work I would not be so confident that our team would make a tangible impact here in Schuylkill Haven.

Why do you think Prysmian chose you for this role? What are your main strengths?
I believe Prysmian chose me because they were looking for paradigm shifting engineers with demonstrated success in industries other than wire and cable manufacturing.  I believe that my strengths of analytical problem solving, six sigma methodology training, and technical leadership of engineers will benefit the Schuylkill Haven plant and Prysmian Group.

Why would you recommend the Make It Program to a young engineer?
I would highly recommend the Make It Program to a young ambitous engineer looking to have a strong global network and looking to grow their professional experience in a challenging and rewarding industry and truly global company.  As a Make It Engineer they can be a part of building change that will change the paradigm of how wire and cable is manufactured for the industry leading manufacturer for years to come.
